The story we tell....

Oakland, California

I was supposed to take a trip to Oakland, California, to go to an A’s game with my stepson. But at the last minute, he had a chance to audition for a broadcasting job, and was asked to be the color man for two NCAA Soccer games.

The trip was amazing.

The night I arrived, I took my camera and walked through the Port of Oakland. I believe I could spend a long time exploring that area, photographically; there is no shortage of unique scenes and lighting.

I had a chance to work with a new zoom lens for my Fuji XT3. Tired of photographing uninspired photos of the Golden Gate Bridge, I ended up taking photographs of people taking pictures.

I made it to an A’s game, and was able to score the whole game without interruption. I missed having my stepson there, and found myself taking a lot of pictures of Dads, which i held back for another project.

And I had a chance to see Talib Kweli, a musician who has inspired me to take a deeper and closer look at my neighborhood.

I took a couple days off from my camera when I returned home, to let the magnitude and variety of what I’d seen and experienced in Oakland to sink in.
